●Smile-Connected School Backpack Project
We receive donations of precious school bags filled with memories from our customers, and deliver them to children overseas who need them through the public interest incorporated foundation, JOICFP. We hope that these school bags will enable the children to attend school and expand their opportunities for learning.
We also donate original Bernatio pencils made from thinning wood, engraved with the words "A wish comes true." along with the school bags.
*The period for which school bag donations can be kept varies each year.
For more details, please check the school bag project details page.
●Development and provision of SDGs sweets
They use leftover sponge cake pieces from making sweets like shortcake, as well as leftover fruit pieces that cannot be served as is, and grind them up in a mixer before mixing them with chocolate to develop and serve the popular sweet treat known as Chocoballs.
●Recycle plastic bottle caps to make polio vaccines
Hokko Shoji, located in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture, is participating in a plastic bottle cap collection campaign called for by the Japan Committee, Vaccines for the World's Children (JCV), as part of its efforts to give back to society through recycling.
Our museum also supports this initiative, and we sort, collect, and wash plastic bottle caps, and recycle them through Hokko Shoji.
1 kg of plastic bottle caps is equivalent to 400 bottles, and 4 kg of caps (approximately 1,600 caps) is enough to vaccinate one person against polio. Furthermore, recycling 1 kg of caps reduces CO2 emissions by 3.15 kg.
●Implementation of academic programs
We offer a variety of programs to help you learn about nature and the environment, including the "Rice Terrace Biotope Project," an experience aimed at restoring rice terraces so that Japanese crested ibises can live, the "RE-CORRIDOR" project to reconnect forests to protect squirrels, and the "Alps Adventure," where you can learn about forestry and forest conservation while having fun.
●Implementation of the "Clover Tour" bus tour to convey the charm of the region
Our staff will guide you to the surrounding attractions according to the season. We are promoting "sustainable tourism," which contributes to the sustainable development of the region through tourism.
● Eco-discount stay plan
In order to create an earth-friendly environment, we ask that you refrain from cleaning during consecutive night stays, thereby reducing cleaning opportunities (water resources, petroleum product use, CO2 emissions, etc.).
Utilizing kimono fabric, a local industry, alcohol dispensers and other items are decorated with kimono fabric.
We received scraps of kimono fabric from a textile company in Tokamachi City, and our staff handcrafted cute kimonos for the dispensers. This creates an opportunity for customers to learn about Tokamachi City as a town of textiles.
● Hosting experience programs that utilize local traditional crafts
We are offering blue and white porcelain experiences in collaboration with kimono manufacturer Suizan, as well as experiences making "Chinkoro," a traditional craft of Tokamachi City. These experiences are also offered as optional programs for educational trips.
We extract essential oil from our own cultivated lavender, creating original aromas that our customers can enjoy.
Lavender harvested from Belnatio's herb garden is processed into essential oil, which is then served in the front lobby as an original aroma for guests to enjoy.
●Belnatio's original aroma loyly
In the main building's "Furusato no Yu" sauna, you can enjoy the scent of original aroma oils made from lavender grown on-site, as well as roasted green tea loyly water made from the second-infusion roasted green tea leaves served in the restaurant.
●Workshop using thinned wood
The Popola program "Hand Stamp," perfect for keeping a record of your child's growth, and the "Forest Crafts" program, which is extremely popular with children, are made using thinned wood from within the Belnatio premises. Belnatio's original pencils are also made using thinned wood.
●"Forest of Lights Leaking Through the Trees" created by staff using recycled thinned wood
A lighted walkway called "Kooridou no Mori" (Forest of Lights Leaking Through Trees) has been created using recycled thinned wood from the site! (Location: Near the Cottage Trim Course)
The log lamps, which the staff carved into individual logs, gently illuminate the ground.
Because it is solar-powered, the hours during which it can be enjoyed are limited, but we hope you will come and enjoy it as a stroll and photo spot.
● Serves Belnatio's original beer "Silk Mint Ale," made with mint harvested on the premises
We use two types of mint, black peppermint and banana mint, harvested on the Belnatio property and sell them in our shops and restaurants.

We donate 20 yen per meal to children in developing countries.
This initiative also won an award at the TABLE FOR TWO Awards 2023.
●Implementation of the original program "Atema University"
Hotel staff provide a learning opportunity through cocktail classes, golf classes, restaurant classes, and general manager classes. The hotel backstage tour, led by hotel staff, is particularly popular and is limited to one group per day.
